Understand Your Mobile Network, Not Just the Signal Bars

CellInfo is an Android mobile network analysis app designed to show what is really happening between your phone and the cellular network.

Instead of relying on a simple signal-bar indicator, CellInfo provides detailed information about your current LTE and 5G connection, including network identity, cell information, radio frequency, signal strength and signal quality.

Whether you are troubleshooting poor mobile coverage, comparing networks, identifying a nearby cell site or carrying out a drive test, CellInfo gives you access to the technical data reported by your Android device.

What can CellInfo show you?

Depending on your device, Android version and mobile network, CellInfo can display information including:

  • Mobile Country Code (MCC) and Mobile Network Code (MNC)
  • Tracking Area Code (TAC) and Location Area Code (LAC)
  • LTE eNB and Cell ID information
  • 5G NR gNB and NR Cell Identity
  • Physical Cell ID (PCI)
  • LTE and 5G frequency bands
  • RSRP, RSRQ, RSSI and SINR signal measurements
  • Timing Advance
  • Serving and neighbouring cells
  • Carrier Aggregation information
  • GPS-based signal mapping and drive-test logging
  • Network diagnostics, latency, jitter and performance testing

The information available varies between Android devices because mobile manufacturers and modem chipsets expose different levels of cellular data to Android.

Why Mobile Signal Bars Don't Tell the Whole Story

The signal bars shown by Android provide a convenient indication of coverage, but they do not explain why a mobile connection is performing well or poorly.

Two phones can display similar signal bars while experiencing very different network performance. Signal strength, interference, network congestion, frequency band, carrier aggregation and radio technology can all affect the connection.

CellInfo exposes measurements such as RSRP, RSRQ and SINR so you can look beyond the bars.

RSRP indicates the strength of the LTE or 5G reference signal.
RSRQ provides an indication of signal quality.
SINR helps show how clean the useful signal is compared with interference and noise

Built for Everyday Troubleshooting and Advanced Network Analysis

CellInfo is useful whether you simply want to understand why your mobile data is slow or you need more detailed information for network testing.

For everyday users, CellInfo can help identify which mobile network and technology the phone is using, compare signal conditions in different locations and investigate changes between LTE and 5G.

For network enthusiasts and technical users, CellInfo provides deeper radio information, signal logging, mapping tools, 5G NR measurements and diagnostics that can be used during coverage surveys and drive testing.

The app also includes dedicated tools for examining network performance, including download and upload testing, latency, jitter, DNS resolution, packet loss and network quality scoring.
